"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt looses it's saltines, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot." (Matthew 5:13)
The bible says that we are the salt of the earth. Here it is used as a metaphor to compare the uses of salt in food as who we are in the world.
In food salt gives flavor to food. Most of us when cooking use salt to flavor our food, and lets say one day we cook and put too little the food won't taste good. You may either throw it away, eat from it(but not much) and throw away the rest or just sprinkle some salt when you are eating it.
Lets me give these things some personal meaning
The Salt - US. We are the salt
Food - World.
We are the salt that gives the flavor to the food or in this case the world. We have to use God's word to give meaning and purpose to the world around us.

If we loose the word of God that is hidden in us or forget the word we are useless in the same way. When you buy soft drink and someone leaves the cap off and the gas comes out. It is not good again it is useless.
Now we don't want to be like that. We wanna be used not useless. So here is how you can.
In science there is a term called Osmosis. Now for all of you that don't know what Osmosis is it is the movement of particles through a semi-permeable membrane. It moves from high concentration to low concentration.
So let's see how we can apply this:
We have the word of God in Us - High concentration
The world (the dark souls) don't have it - Low concentration
We use the word of God in Us (The Light) with God's Help to reach them - Semi permeable membrane.
So God's word moves from High to Low and guess what it never stops you keep going because you will always be filled up again so you spread the word of God. That is how you reach people. By sharing His word.
When we put a little salt....it spreads through out the food that we are cooking. So that is exactly what we got to do. Start with one little grain and eventually it will spread from grain to grain.
So I Challenge You to Flavor your Community!
Be the Salt! Be the Word of God ! Share It !
