"A person can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in their own toil. This too, I see, is from the hand of God, for without him who can eat or find enjoyment?" (Ecc 2:24)
Everything that we do is meaningless and it will all be done in vain unless you find pleasure in it; and not just pleasure, but pleasure that you acknowledge that what you are doing is from God and that all you are doing is to bring honour and glory unto His name.
For example :- You are helping your friend to bake a cake for a party. Your friend baked the cake and you made the icing and decorated it with roses, glitter and other stuff to make the cake look presentable. At the part everyone compliments your friend about the decoration but she took all the compliments, NOT acknowledging that you did it. She took it all for her self. How do you feel ? She didn't even acknowledge you, if it wasn't for you then the cake wouldn't have looked how it did. Right?
Same thing with God. God gives us everything, everything we own belongs to Him. The vineyard, the work, the house etc Everything belongs to Him because He made a way for us to give us these things. He told us which way to go and provided for us so that we can have all these things. Now just like the story, God helps us, and provides for us but we don't acknowledge Him.
In Chapter two, Solomon talks about the pleasures of the earth.
v2 " Laughter", I said " is madness. And what does pleasure accomplish?"
v3 " I tried cheering myself with wine, and embracing folly- my mind still guiding me with wisdom. I wanted to see what was good for people to do under the heavens during the few days of their lives."
v4-8 Speaks about all the things he did; planting vineyards, having maidservants, owning flocks, having singers etc.
But in verse 11 it says "...Everything is meaningless, a chasing after the wind. nothing was gained under the sun."
So everything he toiled for, all the flocks, singers, vineyards all the laughing, cheering himself up with wine was meaningless then and is still meaningless today.
Only God can bring true pleasure, happiness, joy, peace and wisdom. We only get this from God. To those that please God he gives us these things so that we may ENJOY the things that are around us and see it as a gift from Him.
" To the person who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge and happiness." (Ecc 2:26)
So my hint to you is to Enjoy Life - See that everything that you are doing is A GIFT FROM GOD. Because there are people out there who are in a worst condition than you, so it is literally a gift from God.
Don't like cleaning the house? - Some people don't have a house to clean
Don't like going to work and be ordered around? - At least you get pay....and have a work...some don't even have the money and have a job.
Don't like the mess your children make? - Some can't even have children to make the mess and feel motherhood.
Don't like the food you are about to eat? - Some don't have food and are starving.
Look at everything as a gift from God and find pleasure in it.
