From my previous post on Prayer, we looked at what is prayer and how simple praying can be.
Now knowing that you can pray and you have been asking God to help you pray, don't take praying as a "simmy dimmy things" or "a way out." Instead see it as a way of communing with God and growing deeper with Him. Now prayer is important for our spiritual well being and growing closer to God but prayer is also important for other things.
Let's take a look at a few:
1. Making decisions:
When making decisions on what to do, we should first consult God; because he knows the path he has for us even before it has been revealed to us.
Nehemiah prayed for direction and assistance from God before he even made any.
(Nehemiah 1:5-11, 2: 1-5)
2. When sad or discouraged:
Sometimes when we are sad or even discouraged we feel as if no one else knows our pain, will be able to feel it and that no one will be able to help. Your wrong. God knows exactly what your feelings and he will be able to help it.
In Nehemiah 1:3 a problem arose where the wall of Jerusalem was broken down and the gates were burned with fire. In verse 4 we see Nehemiah's sadness and how he felt. "And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven."
Another example is Hannah ( 1 Samuel 1:1-11)
In 1 Samuel Hannah was troubled and lets say "teased" by Peninnah because she did not have any children. "And her adversary also provoked her sore, for to make her fret, because the Lord had shut up her womb." (1 Samuel 1:6)
Hannah now being troubled, took her problem to the Lord in prayer.
"And she was in bitterness of soul and prayed unto the Lord, and wept sore." (1Samuel 1:10)
Hannah was sad, her soul and all its being was sad it was bitter. Hannah didn't curse God and ask "Why God why me?" but instead she said "And she vowed a vow, and said, O Lord of host, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the Lord all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head." (1 Samuel 1:11)
Before Hannah's soul was bitter after praying and giving her problem over to God her soul, her countenance was no longer sad or bitter. "...So the woman went her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no more sad."
As a result of praying the Lord did give unto Hannah a boy child which she named Samuel. "Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked the Lord for him"
(1Samuel: 1:20)
3. When You are Worried or Overwhelmed
In Philippians 4:6-7 God command us not to worry he said "6 Do not be anxious about anything, BUT every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
Let's just examine this piece of scripture
The beginning of it says
Do not be anxious about anything - Now anything could be losing your job, getting your pay, doing well in school or what ever your anything may be.
BUT in every situation - Notice it doesn't say in some situations or just the ones your really worried about but it says in EVERY situation.
BY PRAYER and PETITION with Thanksgiving you present your request( or what ever the problem is) to GOD.
And the Peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Notice it doesn't say present your request to people and then you would get peace. It says present your request to GOD. The one who can give you peace.
Sometimes we think that when we are worried and overwhelmed and we don't know what to do about a certain situation we should talk to a friend and it will make things better but half of the time it doesn't. Here is the reason why. Our friends can't give us that peace that God can.
These are just three things that you can pray to God about when
1. You need to make decisions
2. You are sad/ discouraged
3. You are anxious or worried.
God hears Our prayer but we must believe and have FAITH that He will answer us according to His will.
